Baker Creates Gluten Free Cakes

An Ayrshire master baker has thrown out the conventional recipe book, and started a crusade, to come up with a range of specialist party cakes with a difference. Tim Slatter, who runs the family online business ‘The Brilliant Bakers’, has been inspired to create a specialist range of wheat free cakes, after his daughter Daisy was diagnosed with coeliac disease, an intolerance to gluten which is found in the majority of modern foods. Almost half of the UK population could be suffering some form of food intolerance, often leading to weight gain, diabetes and other health problems. Allergy UK, a charity set up to help the millions of people who suffer from food sensitivity, has estimated that 45 per cent of people are affected, with some experts claiming a 10 fold increase in people with food intolerances in the UK in the last 25 years.
