Incinerator Protest
Hundreds of people took part in a protest march against plans to build Europe’s largest incinerator over the weekend. Lifetime Recycling wants to turn the green field site near Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire into a six hundred and forty million pound recycling and energy plant which will burn around one pint five million tonnes of waste a year to power one hundred thousand homes. However, families living in Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire and Glasgow fear the incinerator will release toxic particles into the atmosphere and cause an epidemic of health problems to children and adults living within a fifty miles radius.
