An original recipe of Agnes Broun, a cheesemaker from Maybole, has been resurrected by South Ayrshire dairy Barwhey’s and is fast becoming a big seller for Chisholms Delicatesen in Ayr. Agnes, who died aged 37 in seventeen ninety six, was born in Craigenton Farm, Kirkoswald, Ayrshire. She married a market gardener called William Burnes from the north east of Scotland and settled in Alloway, Ayrshire to rear 7 children, but continued to make farmhouse chedder cheese to her own recipe. We spoke to Kevin Wadsworth to find out a bit more.
