Foreign Language Assistants
British Council Scotland has launched a campaign to highlight the value of foreign language assistants as new figures reveal numbers have dropped 80% in the past six years. The decline means native speakers of French, German, Italian, Spanish or Chinese, who support language teachers in schools could soon become a thing of the past, putting future generations of Scots at a disadvantage in the globalised economy of the 21st century. North Ayrshire is one of only 7 out of 32 local authorities in Scotland still using Foreign Language Assistants. We spoke to Lloyd Anderson, Director British Council Scotland.
